Summary
The teacher of mathematics position is responsible for creating a high school classroom environment that develops competencies in mathematical skills and understanding of the structure of mathematics; To motivate each pupil to apply mathematical understanding and skills and the solution of practical problems.
Job Duties
- Teachers content and skills in mathematics curriculum.
- Adapts mathematics material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments and lesson plans that guide and challenge students.
- Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the divisions basic instructional philosophy and congruent with core standards provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student in subgroups of students.
- Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students.
- Develop individualized education programs (IEPs) for each student.
- Plan, organize, and assign activities are specific to each student's abilities.
- Teach and mentor students as a class, and small groups, and one-on-one.
- Implement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track their progress.
- Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect student progress and goals.
- Discuss students’ progress with parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators.
- Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklist, census forms, and other record keeping activities as necessary.
- Encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas.
- Evaluates each student's progress in meeting the core standards mathematical knowledge and skills.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
- Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional confidence.
- Planning supervised class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experimental activities and guide students in learning from those activities.
- Attend staff meetings, and serve on committees as required.
- Administer standardized ability and achievement tests, and interpret results to determine students’ strengths and area of need.
- Perform administrative duties such as assisting in hall duty, cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.
- Other duties as requested.
- Assist in developing individualized education programs and updating IEPs for students.
- Create an adapt lesson plans to address students learning needs and abilities as identified in IEPs and assessment measures of growth and proficiency.
- Discuss students’ progress with parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators.
