Summary
The paraprofessional provides assistance to both teachers and students in academic support. They may also work in specialized programs running on individual basis with students requiring close supervision and special assistance. Prepared professional provides support, explanation, re-teaching and discipline.
Major Duties and Performance Responsibilities (not exhaustive):
- Guides and works through lesson plans with students, explains and interprets assignments.
- Assist classes taught and deliberate in a group or individual setting.
- Monitors behavior of students for appropriateness and need for discipline.
- Recommends ideas, identifies problems, or aids and problem solving and meetings with teacher.
- Works for audio visual equipment, computers and or assistive technology as related to IEP/ accommodations and modifications.
- Substitute as a one-on-one aide or teacher, as necessary.
- Demonstrates competence in subject fields assigned.
- Implements the school's goals, objectives, and policies, and the state's goals and requirements.
- Implements personal, building, and department goals.
- Instruct students as outlined in the school approved curriculum.
- Administer standardized ability and achievement test, collect data, interpret results, and determine student strengths and areas of needs.
- Recommends to the immediate supervisor updates to or changes in policies and or procedures relating to the implementation of the educational program in the school.
- Creates a positive image of the school and promotes best learning and teaching climate possible.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate the maturity, interest, and special needs of students.
- Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
- Monitors administration of assessments to ensure that students are following procedures as outlined as well as maintaining security and confidentiality for all assessments.
- Prepares for process design and develop lesson plans related to establish curriculum and IEP goals and objectives.
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons units and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
